4lifeskills had always believed that inclusion meant more than just access—it meant opportunity. Founded on the principle that people of all abilities should have the chance to explore new experiences, the organization was always looking for ways to enrich the lives of its clients. With the help of Fishability, an organization dedicated to making fishing accessible to people with disabilities, we knew it was a perfect match.
The team at 4lifeskills regularly takes some of our eager participants to have some fun out in the water. Many of our clients had never been on a boat before, let alone fished, but the excitement is always contagious. Staff members help the clients with registration, explain what to expect, and assisted them with the fishing.
Our participants at 4lifeskills have made Fishability a regular part of their program and we ensure that every client who is interested have the chance to cast a line, feel the ocean breeze, and experience the simple, unfiltered happiness of a day on the water.
Shannon is a participant from the East Area who was supported to go down to Mandurah to get in some fishing action. His bright smile tells it all when it comes to describing how our participants feel when getting the opportunity to explore their interests.
Throughout the experience, friendships form over shared experiences, and barriers melt away. The support staff cheered each catch, and even those who didn’t reel in a fish still relished the experience of being part of the moment.
