Sometimes, taking a step towards our goals can be as simple as putting on our walking shoes and heading outside.

Our participant recently enjoyed a walk around Point Walter with his support worker, taking in the beautiful surroundings, getting some exercise and enjoying some quality one-on-one time together.

Walking is a simple activity, but it can have a meaningful impact on both physical and emotional wellbeing. For our participants, staying active can be an important part of working towards personal health and lifestyle goals. Every walk provides an opportunity to build healthy habits, improve fitness and become more confident in maintaining an active lifestyle.

But the benefits go beyond physical health.

Getting outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and spending time in a beautiful natural environment can help support emotional wellbeing too. Walking can provide time to clear the mind, reduce stress, enjoy the surroundings and simply take a break from the everyday routine.

Having the opportunity to walk one-on-one with a support worker also provides valuable time to focus on individual goals and preferences. It can be a chance to have meaningful conversations, build confidence, practise community participation and enjoy an activity at a comfortable pace.

At the same time, participants can choose to make their walks a social experience by joining other participants. Walking together can create opportunities to chat, encourage one another, strengthen friendships and enjoy being active as part of a group.

Having different options is important because everyone has different preferences and goals. Some participants may enjoy the quiet and personal connection of a one-on-one walk, while others may feel motivated by the energy and social connection of walking with friends.

For this participant, today’s walk was another positive step towards his personal goals. Whether the journey is taken independently, alongside a support worker or together with other participants, every step counts.

At 4lifeskills, we believe that supporting wellbeing means looking at the whole person. Physical health, emotional wellbeing, confidence, social connection and personal goals are all connected.

Our role is to support participants to discover activities they enjoy and create opportunities for them to stay active, build confidence and work towards their goals, one step at a time.
