A group of our participants recently came together for an exciting day out at Optus Stadium, taking part in a behind-the-scenes tour of one of Perth’s most iconic sporting venues.
During the tour, participants explored areas that are not usually accessible to the public, including the players’ change rooms, while learning more about the history of the stadium, how it operates and some interesting facts about the venue. It was a great opportunity to discover what happens behind the scenes and experience the stadium from a different perspective.
The visit was carefully organised and planned by our support workers, who accompanied participants throughout the experience. From planning the public transport journey to making sure the day was enjoyable, accessible and safe for everyone, our team helped create an experience where participants could explore, learn and take an active role in the day.
Travelling together also provided valuable opportunities to practise teamwork and social skills. Participants communicated with each other, travelled as a group and supported one another throughout the journey.
They also practised public transport navigation and independence, including planning their journey by train and independently purchasing and paying for their own tickets. These real-world experiences gave participants the opportunity to practise making decisions, managing money and taking responsibility for different parts of their journey.
Experiences like this can help build confidence, independence, problem-solving and communication skills by allowing participants to apply what they learn in real-life situations. Exploring a new place, navigating the community and taking responsibility for everyday tasks can all contribute to greater confidence over time.
At 4lifeskills, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens through real experiences and opportunities to try new things. A day out can become an opportunity to learn, practise existing skills and discover new abilities.
