Our kitchen was full of teamwork, creativity, and delicious aromas as our participants put their independent living skills into practice through a fun cooking session.
The day began with planning lunches, creating grocery lists, and working together to budget before heading to the shops to purchase all the ingredients they needed. Along the way, participants practised valuable everyday skills, including budgeting, money handling, decision-making, communication, and making healthy food choices.
Once back in the kitchen, everyone had the opportunity to cook in a way that suited them best. Some participants chose to prepare their own individual meals, building confidence and independence by following recipes and creating a dish they were excited to enjoy. Others decided to work together, sharing ideas, dividing tasks, and cooking as a team. It was wonderful to see everyone supporting one another while learning at their own pace.
After enjoying the delicious lunches they had prepared, everyone pitched in to clean the kitchen, reinforcing the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and caring for shared spaces.
Activities like these are about much more than cooking. They help participants develop practical life skills, increase independence, strengthen problem-solving abilities, and build the confidence to take these skills into everyday life.
We are incredibly proud of all our aspiring chefs for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to learn. Every meal prepared is another step towards greater independence!.
