You have probably seen the green tent outside Bunnings more than once, followed the delicious aroma, and stopped by for a quick treat while enjoying the atmosphere and friendly faces. But have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes?
For us, these community fundraising events are about much more than serving food. They are valuable opportunities for our participants to build confidence, develop practical life skills, and experience the importance of teamwork in a real-world environment. Every step of the day encourages learning, participation, and independence in a supportive and inclusive setting.
Throughout the event, participants work together to prepare and serve food, practice their culinary skills, and learn essential food safety and hygiene procedures. They also gain hands-on experience with money handling, customer service, communication, and organisation skills. From preparing ingredients and managing orders to interacting with members of the community, each role helps build confidence and encourages personal growth.
Most importantly, these experiences empower participants to feel connected to their community while developing everyday skills that can support greater independence in daily life. It is not only about the sausage sizzle itself, it is about creating meaningful opportunities to learn, contribute, and succeed together.
